Greater Sydney's bid to host World Chinese Entrepreneurs

Deputy Lord Mayor Chiang Lim is one of only two Western Sydney leaders assisting the Australia-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry of NSW in a bid to host the World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention in 2013. The only other is the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce.

Other demonstrated support includes former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, NSW Premier Kristina Keneally, Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore, Sydney Business Chamber’s Executive Director the Hon Patricia Forsythe, and Qantas.

Although Chinese entrepreneurs are well-known for being hard-working and energetic, there had never been an attempt to bring them together under one roof. The World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) was first conceptualised and organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry to provide a forum for overseas Chinese entrepreneurs to enhance economic cooperation and promote better understanding among overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and business communities worldwide. Being apolitical in nature, its mission is to focus on economic and cultural issues pertaining to Chinese entrepreneurship.

For Australia, the World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention presents an important opportunity to bring Chinese entrepreneurs from across the world, aimed at providing a platform for economic cooperation and exchanges as well as establishing an economic networking linking Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide. Each Convention has attracted more than 1,000 business leaders from across the globe.
