The Asia Outlook: Handling the Recession and Preparing for the Upturn

Come and join the Asia Business Connection and hear Richard Martin, Managing Director of IMA Asia talk about the current recession, and what preparations of after this recession.

In the month prior to our meeting Richard Martin of IMA Asia will have met with some 500+ clients across India (five cities) and in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai (as well as Sydney and Melbourne) to review the outlook for Asian markets.

The briefings focus as much on how companies are managing their businesses as the outlook for individual markets. IMA Asia's Q3 forecast for Asia, which will be released in early July, draws heavily on the insights gained from companies during these meetings across Asia. Richard and his team will take time out from wrapping up that forecast to talk through some of the key insights into the market outlook and corporate strategy in Asia.

Richard has over two decades of experience in analysis, research, publishing, and consulting in the Asia region. Prior to establishing IMA Australia, Richard served as the Economist Intelligence Unit's Director for Southeast Asia based in Singapore, having joined the unit’s Asian operations in Hong Kong in 1980. During his time as Director, Richard set up the regional office in the city and built briefing programs with associates in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Philippines. From 1982-1985, Richard was Director of Asia Pacific Consulting & Research based in Hong Kong.

Richard presents to boards of multinationals on a regular basis and speaks at numerous forums each year, presenting the regional outlook and the implications for corporate strategy. From 1994 to 1997, he contributed to the national debate on industry and investment policy in Australia with a series of reports, including Make or Break (1997) and Australia’s Foreign Investment Challenge (1996).
