Labor and Liberals launch shuttle bus promises in Parramatta

As the NSW Opposition promised to fund Parramatta’s free shuttle bus service the Loop yesterday, the Government was planning to roll out its new green shuttle service in the city today.

Yesterday, as Opposition transport spokeswoman Gladys Berejiklian came to town with her promise to fund the Loop service if elected to government on March 26, the Advertiser was unaware that the Government had already presented its plan for a free shuttle service for the city to councillors in a confidential council meeting on Monday night.

Premier booed over takeover of planning laws

Returning planning powers to communities would mean ''more work'' for councils, the Premier said during an attack on the Coalition's election promise to reform the planning system by empowering local government.

Kristina Keneally endured jeers from mayors and councillors during her address to the Local Government Association conference in Albury yesterday as she defended state Labor's resumption of planning powers from councils, in particular Part 3A of the planning rules, which give the government authority to determine all major projects.

Australia could lead the world in such technology

PARRAMATTA could be the first city in [NSW] to build recharge stations for electric-powered cars.
Deputy Lord Mayor Chiang Lim is working with the electric vehicle company Better Place Australia to discuss the possibility of introducing the technology over the next two years.

China Syndrome

CRAIG Michie ``made a few blues’’ in his initial business dealings with the Chinese but doors opened for him when he attended the Parramatta Council China trade mission recently.

Mr Michie runs Taurus Trade Finance, which has offices in Parramatta, Melbourne, Brisbane and Guangzhou in southern China.

But establishing the China office was not easy as his company was unknown to the Chinese who need to build a level of trust with companies before accepting them.

Parramatta Business Expo hailed a success

The Parramatta Business Expo has been hailed a success after more than 500 people attended Wednesday's event.

``It was all about networking,'' event organiser and co-founder of the Sydney Women's Network, Natalie Moutia said. ``We found that there was a need for opportunities to market their business so we gave them an expo.'
