Official acknowledgments: Tanya Gadiel – MP Chris Gough – Tourism NSW Ladies and gentlemen, On behalf of the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Parramatta, I would like to welcome you all here today, to the launch of the 2010 Discover Parramatta, Official Visitors Guide. Parramatta’s reputation as an exciting and dynamic visitor destination continues to grow. The city attracts numerous domestic and international visitors, as well as Sydney residents who come to explore Parramatta’s exciting leisure products, from its bustling dining scene and arts program to its nationally significant heritage and important open spaces. The Discover Parramatta guide plays an important role in encouraging visitation to the city and is a great resource for our visitors once they arrive at our doorstep. Now in its 19th year, Discover Parramatta remains one of Parramatta City Council’s primary tourism marketing tools. 70,000 copies are distributed across Sydney hotels, visitor centres, information kiosks and transport hubs and the guide is made available to conference delegates in Parramatta helping them add value to their business trips. Council continues to work with many organisations, and fosters new networks to ensure the guide reaches our potential visitors. The 2010 Discover Parramatta also marks the important partnership between Parramatta City Council and Tourism New South Wales. Council is proud to have the support of Tourism New South Wales and the State Government in helping build tourism in Parramatta. Parramatta City Council is delighted to receive a $49,000 grant through the NSW Government’s Greater Sydney Tourism Partnership Funding Program, which has contributed to the development of the 2010 Discover Parramatta guide and Parramatta’s tourism marketing activities, such as the Discover Parramatta website. Together with Council’s Dining Guide, the new website and the Discover Parramatta Guide, Council is fulfilling its commitment to furthering Parramatta’s reputation as a great place to visit. Council would like to continue working with Tourism New South Wales to ensure tourism in Parramatta continues to grow, for the benefit of the city’s attractions, heritage properties, retail and dining businesses and accommodation providers.
