The Parramatta Business Expo has been hailed a success after more than 500 people attended Wednesday's event.

``It was all about networking,'' event organiser and co-founder of the Sydney Women's Network, Natalie Moutia said. ``We found that there was a need for opportunities to market their business so we gave them an expo.'

NSW State Government will not save Benaud home

The NSW State Government has rejected saving cricketing legend Richie Benaud’s childhood home in North Parramatta from demolition.

Parramatta Council had appealed to NSW Planning Minister Tony Kelly to place an interim heritage order on the 5 Sutherland Rd property to save it from demolition by owner Michael Younes who plans to build units on the site.

THE surname Benaud and the game of cricket seem inseparable. But part of the story of the great cricketing and sporting family - the North Parramatta home where brothers Richie and John spent their formative years - is under threat of demolition.

At Monday night's council meeting, Parramatta's lord mayor, Paul Garrard and deputy lord mayor Chiang Lim proposed seeking an interim heritage order from the Planning Minister to protect the inter-war era brick bungalow at number 5, Sutherland Road.

It's an Aboriginal word that means "where the eels lie down". Now Parramatta is transforming its main drag from a place where hoons drive down into a vehicle-free European-style piazza where diners sit down.

A stroll down Church Street from its picturesque Lennox Bridge, built in 1836, in the "Paris end of Parra" down to the pedestrian-only Church Street Mall, reveals the city has positioned itself as a new dining and arts hub, especially for the under-25 set.
