MEDIA RELEASE - 25 NOVEMBER 2008 With Christmas only four weeks away, Parramatta City Council is planning ahead for next year’s and future Christmases by agreeing to initiate an annual Christmas Lights Competition. “Christmas is a very special Christian season which many Australians celebrate,” said Clr Chiang Lim. This proposed annual competition rewards the residents, businesses and nominators where the Christmas lights creations are judged on the basis of creativity, innovation, animation, and alignment to Christmas. “Without being politically correct, let’s really get into the spirit of Christmas and extrovertly show how brilliant the City of
Council will explore funding partners who can contribute towards the operational costs of running this annual Christmas Lights competition, as well as help provide the prizes for its winners. In other council areas, pockets of neighbourhoods have become famous for their Christmas lights decorations each year, inspiring visitors with their creations, reinforcing the spirit of Christmas and their own pride in their neighbourhoods.
