Border war over a street name | Border war over a street name |

By Jesse Phillips, Sunday Telegraph, 22 May 2011 TWO councils are fighting over whether to rename part of a dead-end street in Parramatta after the Lebanese town of Kfarsghab. Parramatta Council wants to rename a small section of Amos St, Kfarsghab Place, after the Lebanese town named one of its streets Parramatta Rd. But Holroyd Council, with joint jurisdiction of the street, blocked the change.
Parramatta Liberal councillor Chiang Lim questioned the motivation behind Holroyd's stance. Cr Lim said the vast majority of people living near the dead-end of Amos St supported the renaming. "But Holroyd polled the entire street and not everyone was happy," Cr Lim said. Holroyd voted to oppose the renaming. Cr Lim said Holroyd had failed to see "the bigger picture". Without Holroyd support, Parramatta will have to reject the renaming at its meeting tomorrow.
