Child care providers and parents reporting teething problems with new subsidy system

The Australian Childcare Alliance's Chiang Lim said conflicting advice from different government agencies was confusing parents and causing problems.

 

"Some are having confusion because of very different advice from different government agencies, from the childcare providers themselves and also from the software providers who underpin the entire system," he said.

 

"One agency will say one thing, another agency will say another. The law then says something altogether different.

 

"A number of the issues for parents are whether they've got the right entitlements, whether they are fully enrolled and whether their entitlements are correctly reflected by Centrelink."

 

The Government has conceded there were some initial teething problems with the new computer systems but said overwhelmingly the change had gone smoothly.
